Cancún, Q. Roo – The third edition of the Cancún Open Beach Tennis tournament is set to take place May 9–11 at the iconic Playa Langosta, welcoming both national and international competitors for three days of high-energy matches on the sand.
The tournament, which continues to grow in visibility and participation, was officially announced during a press conference at the Cancún Institute of Sports. Organizers emphasized that the event serves not only as a competition but as a platform to promote beach tennis across the Mexican Caribbean.
Matches will begin daily at 8:00 a.m., starting Friday, May 9 with the BT10 Pro category. On Saturday, amateur doubles competitions will take place across beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. The tournament wraps up Sunday with the Mixed Open Doubles, open to players aged 13 and older.
Beach tennis, a sport that blends the speed of tennis with the intensity of beach volleyball, is played on sand using paddles similar to those in padel tennis. The twist? The ball can never touch the ground, keeping the action fast-paced and engaging from the first serve to the final point.
The event is being led by co-directors Paola Berenice Rogel Hernández and Andrea Romina Passarini Núñez, who were joined at the announcement by Gabriel Aguiñaga, Coordinator of Federated Sports, representing the Director General of the Sports Institute, Alejandro Luna López. The team highlighted the growing interest in emerging sports and expressed gratitude to local authorities and sponsors for their continued support.
This year’s tournament is part of a broader effort led by Cancún Mayor Ana Paty Peralta to encourage physical activity, healthy social engagement, and sports tourism as drivers of well-being and community development.
Registration is now open and available entirely online, making it easy for local, national, and international athletes to join. Interested participants can sign up at: https://forms.gle/xmyj5Li1umZJUszn6
