Cancún, Mexico — With enthusiasm and a vision for the future, Carlos David Jacinto Ortiz, Director of Tourism Promotion for the State of Oaxaca, announced in Cancún the launch of a new daily direct flight between Cancún and Oaxaca City, operated by Volaris. This move strengthens the connection between two of Mexico’s most iconic tourist destinations.

Cancún as the Gateway for International Tourism

Jacinto Ortiz celebrated this new connectivity as a key opportunity to boost cultural tourism to Oaxaca, leveraging Cancún’s position as the primary entry point for international visitors to Mexico.

“The flight has a capacity for over 180 passengers and connects us in less than two hours to the cultural heart of the country: Oaxaca,” Jacinto emphasized. “We invite all visitors to Cancún to discover the richness of our roots, from pre-Hispanic archaeological sites to the colonial architecture of our capital city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.”

Targeting European Tourists

The official highlighted that this connection particularly benefits European tourists, who arrive in Cancún and seek to explore the Mayan world, now with an added cultural extension to southern Mexico.

“This flight allows us to integrate naturally into that circuit. Many tourists, upon learning that we are close to Chiapas, take the opportunity to visit Oaxaca,” he explained.

In addition to international visitors, a growing flow of domestic travelers has also been observed. “On the first flight, we saw groups of university students who chose Cancún for their graduation trip. This is a clear example of how this link benefits both destinations,” he added.

Culture and Tradition: Oaxaca’s Main Attractions

Oaxaca’s tourism promotion emphasizes its unique offerings: globally recognized cuisine, traditional mezcal, and attractions such as Puerto Escondido, Zipolite, the bays of Huatulco, and several Magical Towns.

A new highway connecting the capital with the Oaxacan coast further facilitates visitor mobility. Oaxaca aims to solidify this route as a strategic national promotion alliance, strengthening visitor flows and diversifying tourism in Mexico.

“Cancún is our bridge to the world, and Oaxaca is the essence of our culture. This flight unites the best of both territories,” concluded Carlos David Jacinto Ortiz, Director of Tourism Promotion for the State of Oaxaca.
