The Firefighter's Board of Cancún has yet to disclose the total amount raised from a recent fundraising initiative. The campaign, which took place in May, involved rounding up at local supermarkets to raise funds for a new ambulance. The ambulance is estimated to cost one and a half million pesos.
The Board partnered with a Cancún supermarket to encourage shoppers to donate their spare change to the cause. The funds raised are intended to go towards the purchase of this new ambulance for the city's firefighters.
Aquileo Cervantes Álvarez, the head of the Firefighters, mentioned that he has not yet received the final tally from the fundraiser. He is hopeful that the information will be available in the coming days.
Cervantes also noted that if the fundraising goal is not met, the money collected will be used to purchase other necessary equipment, such as oxygen tanks, automatic breathing apparatuses, and hoses.
The initiative began in April with the aim of providing much-needed resources for the firefighters. The Board recognized the need for a medical unit that could provide assistance to any team member who may require it.
