Arrested: Cancún Extortionist Targeting Masseuses and Tourist Guides

Uriel Alonzo "N", also known as "El Gemelo Kantún," was taken into custody in Mérida, Yucatán, on Tuesday. He faces charges of homicide and extortion of tourist services providers in Cancún, Quintana Roo. Alonzo, a native of Mérida, Yucatán, is reportedly employed in the car sales industry.

The arrest was made by the Public Security Secretariat of the State of Yucatán (SSP). The 35-year-old was apprehended by investigators from the SSP and officials from the State Attorney General's Office (FGE). The operation was carried out in collaboration with similar authorities in Quintana Roo.

Alonzo is allegedly connected to a criminal group operating in the region. He faces accusations from local merchants and tourist service providers in Playa Mujeres, Cancún, for extortion, intimidation, and physical harm. According to the SSP, the victims of Alonzo's alleged extortion include masseuses, tourist guides, and street vendors. He reportedly demanded weekly payments ranging from six thousand to nine thousand pesos, which were to be deposited into various bank accounts.

Local media in Quintana Roo have linked Alonzo to a criminal group associated with a man known as "El Turco," who is considered a primary instigator of violence in the region.
