Cancun Court Sentences Two Cuban Men for Kidnapping
Cancun, Quintana Roo — A judge in Cancun has sentenced two Cuban men to four years and six months in prison for aggravated kidnapping, concluding a case that began with a victim’s cries for help in April 2024.
The court found Yosbel Lázaro Planas Pita and Roinel Morejón Rodríguez guilty of holding a man against his will at a home in the Los Héroes residential development in the Supermanzana 224 district. During the kidnapping, the victim was locked inside the property, physically restrained, and threatened with death while the captors demanded $8,000 from his family for his release.
According to court documents, the victim managed to shout for help from inside the house, alerting neighbors, who then notified police. Officers entered the home, rescued the man, and arrested both suspects in the act.
After reviewing the evidence, the judge determined the defendants’ criminal responsibility and imposed the prison sentence. The victim’s identity was protected during the proceedings.
