Cancún, Mexico — The municipal Animal Protection and Welfare Office in Cancún has officially resumed operations after a 90-day suspension, restarting services for the city’s canine and feline populations.
The reopening marks a significant step for public health and animal welfare, restoring essential veterinary services that had been halted, a situation that had raised concerns among animal protection groups and residents.
Since January 30, the office in Region 99 has been operating again from Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., aiming to address the backlog in medical consultations and administrative procedures.
Municipal authorities clarified that services will not be available on Saturdays for now, urging pet owners to schedule visits only on weekdays.
According to the official report, public response has been immediate, with a high influx of people primarily seeking sterilization surgeries and anti-rabies vaccination programs, considered key services for population control and preventing zoonotic diseases in the city.
