Cancun Airport Chaos: 27 Flight Delays & 2 Cancellations

Cancun International Airport (CIA) recently experienced a slight uptick in air operations, with a total of 487 flights, 326 of which were international. Over 73,000 passengers were expected to be transported on these domestic and international flights.

Two flights were cancelled and six were delayed, primarily affecting connections with Houston. These flights were predominantly managed by United Airlines.

The Southeast Airport Group (ASUR), which operates the CIA, reported that of the 244 arrivals on the day, 80 were domestic and 264 were international. Of the 243 departures, 81 were domestic and 162 were international.

According to Skyscanner, United Airlines cancelled one arrival and one departure to and from Houston. In addition, there were 27 delays, including eight landings and 19 take-offs. Over 90% of these delays were related to international connections.

The 326 international operations were responsible for transporting over 50,000 passengers to 56 destinations, including Amsterdam, Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Bogota, Boston, Calgary, Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Edmonton, Istanbul, Fort Lauderdale, Frankfurt, Guatemala, Halifax, Hamilton, Houston, Kansas City, Havana, Lima, London, Los Angeles, Madrid, Malpensa, Manchester, Medellin, Miami, Minneapolis, Moncton, and Montreal.

The 161 domestic operations served 19 destinations, including Chihuahua, Mexico City, Ciudad Juarez, Guadalajara, Hermosillo, Leon, Monterrey, Morelia, Oaxaca, Puebla, Queretaro, Reynosa, San Luis Potosí, Santa Lucia, Tijuana, Toluca, Tuxtla, Veracruz, and Villahermosa.

Both national and international flights were operated by 34 airlines, including Aeromexico, Air Canada, Air Europa, Air Transat, Alaska, American Airlines, Arajet, Avianca, Avianca Costa Rica, British Airways, Condor, Copa, Delta, Edelweiss, Eurowings, Flair Airlines, Frontier, JetBlue, Lan Peru, Magnicharter, Neos SPA, Sky Airlines Peru, Southwest, Spirit, Sunwing, Thomson, TUI Airlines Netherland, Turkish Airlines, United Airlines, Viva Aerobus, Volaris, West Jet, and Wingo.
