CANCÚN, Q. Roo — With a commitment to consolidating the empowerment and economic independence of women in Cancún, Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta signed a collaboration agreement between the Municipal Institute for Women (IMM) and the RCD Foundation for the implementation of the "Tejedoras de Sueños" (Weavers of Dreams) project at the Casa de la Mujer Emprendedora (House of the Entrepreneurial Woman) in Supermanzana 228.

A Project Uniting Circular Economy and Women's Empowerment

The "Tejedoras de Sueños" is an initiative of the RCD Foundation that unites the circular economy with the empowerment of women in vulnerable situations. The project utilizes disused textiles from the hotel industry, such as uniforms, table linens, and bed linens, to transform them into artisanal products with social and cultural value. These products include dolls inspired by local fauna, such as spider monkeys, turtles, whales, and birds of the region.

The signing ceremony was held in the presidential office of the Municipal Palace. Mayor Ana Paty Peralta emphasized that her administration promotes public policies with a gender perspective that strengthen women's economic autonomy and generate new opportunities for development.

"With this agreement, we contribute and open doors for their financial independence, in addition to building a more just, sustainable, and supportive future," stated Ana Paty Peralta.

Program Expansion and Training Details

For her part, the director of the IMM, Miroslava Reguera Martínez, detailed that the agreement will allow the program, which already operates successfully in Playa del Carmen, to now have its Cancún chapter. In this first edition, it is planned to train approximately 60 women, 45 of whom are already enrolled.

She clarified that the beneficiaries will receive training in sewing, cutting, garment assembly, and quality control. They will also receive a fair payment for each piece they produce.

The officialization of the agreement was carried out by Ana Paty Peralta and Miroslava Reguera Martínez, along with the legal representative of the RCD Foundation, Lourdes Simón Farah, and the director of the RCD Foundation, Alejandra Leyva Amare.
