Cancún, Quintana Roo — The president of the Cancún College of Public Accountants is urging taxpayers to carefully review preloaded information from Mexico’s tax authority and file their annual declarations early to avoid fines ranging from 1,400 to 122,000 pesos.
Carlos Barreiro Montañez said taxpayers should thoroughly check data preloaded by the Tax Administration Service (SAT) and ensure proper accounting-fiscal reconciliation. He recommended seeking specialized help to avoid omissions, noting most companies have accounting departments or external advisors.
“It’s important not to wait until the last day,” Barreiro Montañez said. “We advise filing the declaration early to avoid SAT portal congestion and allow time for corrections. A meticulous review of the reconciliation between accounting and fiscal results is crucial.”
He emphasized that taxpayers should verify personal deductions, ensure banking information is correct, check that their e-signature is valid, and confirm they haven’t exceeded income thresholds set by the SAT.
The annual declaration period began January 1, with a deadline of March 31. Barreiro Montañez stressed that meeting tax obligations requires both timeliness and accuracy.
