Acapulco, Guerrero — As a result of strategies promoted by Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda to strengthen air connectivity for the state known as the “Hogar del Sol” (Home of the Sun), the return of the Cancún–Acapulco flight with airline Viva has been confirmed, starting in April of this year.
This was announced by the head of the State Secretariat of Tourism, Simón Quiñones Orozco, who reported that after various working meetings to finalize the return of this route, which represents a significant advance in air connectivity, it also reflects the development of the destination and the expansion of Acapulco’s tourism offerings.
Simón Quiñones announced that the official announcement of the return of this route will be made during the 2026 edition of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), to be held in Madrid, Spain. He also highlighted that this route is part of three new air connections that will be announced for the state of Guerrero during the first half of the year.
The Cancún–Acapulco flight will initially operate with two weekly frequencies, on Thursdays and Sundays, with a stop at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), which will expand connection options for national and international visitors.
The Tourism Secretary reiterated Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda’s commitment to continue strengthening the state’s air connectivity, with the goal of increasing tourist influx during 2026 and offering optimal conditions for hosting international-caliber events, such as the 50th edition of the Tianguis Turístico de México, which will be held in the port of Acapulco.
With these actions, the state government consolidates air connectivity as a strategic axis for boosting tourism, economic reactivation, and the national and international projection of Acapulco as a competitive destination of the Hogar del Sol.
