A Canadian tourist was discovered deceased at the Mudra Tulum Hotel. The hotel staff found the body and promptly alerted emergency services via 911.
Initial reports suggest that the death could be attributed to an overdose. However, authorities are keeping all possibilities open until more information is available. Specialists from the FGE have moved the body to the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) for an autopsy to definitively determine the cause of death.
The Prosecutor's Office has confirmed that they will continue their investigation. If necessary, they will work with consular authorities to inform and support the deceased's family. This tragic incident brings attention back to the ongoing issue of substance abuse in the region, a concern for both locals and tourists alike. As tourism in Tulum continues to increase, so too does the need for safety measures and prevention of such incidents.
