Cancún, Quintana Roo — A man born in India who holds Canadian citizenship and is wanted in the United States on suspicion of illegal arms trafficking was arrested on Avenida Huayacán in the municipality of Benito Juárez, authorities said.

The suspect was identified as Prasath “N,” 37. According to information from the U.S. Marshals Service, he is the subject of an active arrest warrant in Pennsylvania.

U.S. investigators allege he began trafficking weapons in Toronto around the age of 30. He allegedly bought firearms legally in the United States and then transported them overland to Canada, where he sold them illegally to members of local criminal groups.

Authorities also link him to the theft of gold bars at Toronto Pearson International Airport, a haul valued at roughly $22 million. He is alleged to have taken part in the heist alongside two other men.

After those events, Prasath “N” left Canada and entered Mexico illegally through Tijuana, Baja California, before traveling to Benito Juárez, where investigators with the State Prosecutor’s Office tracked him down and arrested him.

The foreign national was handed over to Mexico’s National Migration Institute to complete the corresponding paperwork. Under the legal process, he is expected to be transferred to the U.S. authorities seeking him to answer for the crimes he is accused of.
