Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The symbolic commencement of the Buen Fin shopping event in Playa del Carmen was held at the main entrance of the Chedraui supermarket in Plaza las Américas. The event was led by representatives from the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (CONCANACO-ServyTur), the CANACO-ServyTur of Playa del Carmen, and the municipal Secretary of Economic Development and Investment Attraction for Playa del Carmen.

The fifteenth edition of the Buen Fin began nationally on November 13. During this period, businesses, restaurants, service providers, and even the municipal government are offering a series of promotions and discounts on nearly all their products and services. The event serves as a precursor to the December sales season, which is set to begin in a couple of weeks.

At the inaugural event, the President of the CANACO Servytur, Adán Toledo Lucero, commented on the significant interest from CONCANACO-affiliated merchants in participating in this program, which is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this year. This year saw a 16 percent increase in the registration of businesses and their offers, following a call for participation that was previously launched through the various Chambers across the Mexican Republic to facilitate tracking during these Buen Fin days.

A national councilor of the CONCANACO highlighted that there is also a continued increase in the offerings from online stores. The councilor called on shoppers to make intelligent and planned purchases, advising that while these days of offers are an opportunity to acquire items with considerable discounts, they should avoid abusing credit cards.

Regarding online purchases, the councilor urged consumers to verify that websites are secure and authenticated to prevent fraud, which unfortunately some buyers fall victim to. Shoppers were advised to check for secure purchase authentication and to avoid disclosing personal or financial information.

For his part, the Secretary of Economic Development, Antón Bojorquez, similarly encouraged citizens to seek out formal and local commerce in Playa del Carmen. He also reiterated that the municipality, through various secretariats and departments, has active discounts and fiscal incentives for the Buen Fin, allowing residents to get up to date on fines, surcharges, and some procedures and penalties.

Bojorquez also reminded the public that in case of any dissatisfaction or if advertised offers and/or discounts are not being honored, they should call the Federal Consumer Prosecutor's Office (PROFECO) to file a complaint so it can be resolved in the buyer's favor.

On the topic of citizen security, the social proximity program was activated. Under this program, police officers will be conducting foot patrols in the vicinity of stores and shopping centers to provide security for shoppers and businesses, and to prevent theft.

To conclude the inaugural ceremony, the representatives from the Confederation made a purchase in the electronics department. The Secretary of Economic Development did likewise, and they sent a message to the public encouraging participation in this edition of the Buen Fin, supporting local commerce and contributing to the economic development of the municipality of Playa del Carmen.
