Mexico City — The Bank of Mexico has an approved design for a 2000 peso banknote in its archives, developed in 2018 as part of a series designated "G." Despite the existence of this official design, the issuance of the 2000 peso note remains on hold due to economic factors and cash flow considerations.

An Approved Design Awaiting Issuance

The conceptual version of the banknote features portraits of Rosario Castellanos and Octavio Paz, alongside an image of the agave landscape of Tequila, Jalisco. This design has been the subject of rumors and leaks, although it has not been officially released to the public.

Despite having a defined project with a theme centered on "Contemporary Mexico," the 2000 peso banknote remains in a state of waiting. It is considered a sub-project within the central bank's "New Family of Banknotes." To date, only nine of the ten planned projects have been completed, with the issuance of this banknote still pending final authorization.

This renewal program aims to modernize and strengthen trust in the national currency. However, the decision to put new banknotes into circulation depends on multiple economic factors and the country's cash flow. There is currently no defined date for its issuance, which remains under analysis and planning.

It is important to highlight that, although it has not been officially launched, the 2000 peso banknote is part of the plans to adapt to current monetary needs, considering economic growth and cash circulation in Mexico in the coming years.
