Riviera Maya, Mexico — Bahía Príncipe Riviera Maya Resort reaffirmed its position as a national reference in coastal sustainability after participating in the 5th National Meeting of Sustainable Beaches, organized by the Mexican Institute for Standardization and Certification (IMEEC), where it officially received the NMX-AA-120-SCFI-2016 "Playas Limpias Sustentables" certification and the Playa Platino certification, the highest environmental distinction awarded in Mexico for tourist beaches.

This recognition highlights more than a decade of continuous work in favor of marine conservation, the care of flora and fauna, and the responsible management of coastal ecosystems, fundamental pillars of the Grupo Piñero sustainability model and its Eco-Bahia Foundation.

During the official ceremony, Roberto Sánchez, Sustainability Manager, received the certificate on behalf of the resort from Viviana Fernández Camargo, General Director of the IMEEC, accompanied by state and municipal authorities such as Ana Patricia Peralta de la Peña, Mayor of Benito Juárez; Óscar Alberto Rébora Aguilera, Secretary of Ecology and Environment of Quintana Roo; and David Buchanan García, Head of ZOFEMAT Tulum.

Bahía Príncipe Riviera Maya Resort was also recognized as a national success case, after sharing the presentation "From comprehensive management to NMX-120 certification: the Bahía Príncipe model for sustainable beaches and marine fauna protection," where its main environmental programs were presented:

  • Protection and monitoring of sea turtles.
  • Control of lighting, access, and furniture during the reproductive season.
  • Coastal monitoring and environmental indicators.
  • Comprehensive waste management and microplastic control.
  • Marine restoration and artificial reef projects.
  • Nursery of native species and restoration of coastal dunes.
  • Continuous training of operational and tourist staff.
  • Strategy for community participation and environmental education.

These actions, driven in conjunction with the programs of the Eco-Bahía Foundation and thanks to the commitment of all the Complex's employees and its visitors, reflect a coastal management model based on regenerative tourism, where tourism operations become an engine for environmental conservation, education, and well-being for the local community.

"This recognition reaffirms our vision of a tourism that protects, regenerates, and generates environmental value for communities. At Bahía Príncipe Riviera Maya we will continue strengthening our sustainable practices so that every visitor experiences a journey that is responsible towards the nature that surrounds us," highlighted Arantxa Munuera Torralba, General Director of the Mexico Complex.

With this new recertification, Bahía Príncipe Riviera Maya Resort consolidates itself as a leader in sustainable tourism in Mexico, uniting the efforts of its employees, its ecological foundation, and its institutional allies to preserve the natural heritage of the Mexican Caribbean.
