Chetumal, MX — After acknowledging that 60 percent of digital platforms providing lodging services in Bacalar are operating irregularly, Municipal President José Contreras Méndez confirmed that these lodging centers lack a civil protection scheme and also do not have municipal public services because they are not regularized.
He indicated that the lodging centers that have been able to be regularized were detected through the promotion they conduct on social media, which led to their notification.
However, he clarified that he does not know the total number of lodging centers offering their services through digital platforms “because they only give me percentages in the regularization process.”
Out of 100 percent of rooms offering lodging services through digital platforms, 40 percent have been regularized, although he does not know the exact number because the treasurer handles those figures, he stated.
He acknowledged that, because they are not regularized, lodging centers operating through platforms do not have public services nor a civil protection manual.
“What happens is that they have not come forward to regularize themselves, and the notifications that have been made were because they advertise on social media and we have detected them,” he emphasized.
Contreras Méndez noted that he does not know how much the municipality obtains from the collection of fees for lodging services provided through digital platforms.
