Bacalar Carnival 2026 Announces Competitions and Prizes

Bacalar, Quintana Roo — Municipal authorities in Bacalar have launched the calls for entries for the comparsas, costumes, and float competitions of “Carnaval Bacalar 2026, Un viaje al Mundo Maya” (A Journey to the Maya World), to be held from February 6 to 10 of this year.

The comparsas, costumes, and float competitions distribute a total prize purse of 187,000 pesos among the top three places in the various categories.

The comparsas competition distributes a prize purse of 95,000 pesos among the top three places in the Preschool, Children’s, Youth, and Open categories, though an Exhibition category is also called for. The costume competition will distribute 62,000 pesos in prizes among the top three places in the Individual Children’s and Open categories, as well as Group Children’s and Open categories. Meanwhile, the float competition will distribute a prize purse of 30,000 pesos among the top three places in the Open category.

Registration for participants in the various competitions is conducted at the offices of the Directorate of Education and Culture of the municipality of Bacalar, located on Calle 44 with Avenida 33 in the city of Bacalar.

José Alfredo Contreras Méndez, municipal president of Bacalar, invited all who wish to join the comparsas, costumes, and floats to this great celebration that will take them on a journey to the Maya world, full of color, creativity, and tradition.

He added that it is also the time to showcase the talent, imagination, and pride of Bacalar in the most joyful party of the year.

“From February 6 to 10, our streets will be filled with comparsas, floats, dances, costumes, talent, and lots of fun for the whole family. Come with your family and friends to enjoy this great party, to feel the pride of our roots, and to share unforgettable moments in the Magical Town that captivates,” he said.

He added that Bacalar is ready to celebrate healthily, so he invited citizens not to miss this great celebration and to be part of the magic of Carnaval Bacalar 2026.
