BACALAR, Mexico — A construction project located on the shore of the Seven Colors Lagoon has been shut down by personnel from the Directorate of Public Works, Urban Development, Ecology, and Environment of Bacalar for lacking the corresponding permits.
Through a statement published on its social media channels, José Alfredo Contreras Méndez, the mayor of Bacalar, announced the closure, emphasizing that "no one is above the law" and that his administration will act firmly to prevent violations of current regulations.
"In the Honorable City Council of Bacalar, we maintain a firm and energetic stance against all those works and constructions that represent irregularities and lack the corresponding permits," the statement reads.
In recent weeks, the locality has recorded several closures of works that did not have the necessary authorization. These measures have been taken in response to citizen complaints, which the City Council has addressed to stop the proliferation of irregular constructions that risk the order of the municipality.
The mayor assured that compliance with regulations is a shared responsibility, but it is up to the authorities to enforce them rigorously. "We are on the side of the people and we work to guarantee responsible, safe, and sustainable urban growth," the statement adds.
The municipal president also communicated that, through these actions, he seeks to ensure balanced development that preserves the town's values and resources for the benefit of its inhabitants and visitors.
Furthermore, he reiterated his call for citizens to continue reporting any irregularities they detect in matters of construction.
