Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A total of 300 kilograms of homemade fireworks were seized by personnel from the Secretariat of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention, and Firefighters in Playa del Carmen.
This action is part of the measures promoted by the government of Playa del Carmen Mayor Estefanía Mercado, in response to citizen complaints about the illegal sale of these products.
Under the coordination of Playa del Carmen Civil Protection Secretary Darwin Covarrubias, during the operation more than 200 kilograms of fireworks were secured at a location where the irregular installation of tables on public roads was detected in the Villas del Sol subdivision. The remainder of the material was located and confiscated at various points in the commercial zone as a result of preventive patrols.
These actions are the result of ongoing prevention, response, and coordination work within the framework of the Guadalupe-Reyes operation, which remains active and will be reinforced in the coming days ahead of New Year’s celebrations. The goal is to reduce risks and protect the safety of families.
Regarding the operation, Secretary Darwin Covarrubias acknowledged the commitment and work of the operational staff, who permanently remain in the field addressing citizen complaints, conducting preventive patrols, and providing timely assistance to the population.
The Secretariat of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention, and Firefighters reiterated that the sale, purchase, and use of fireworks is prohibited and invites citizens to continue making reports that allow for timely action.
