Cancún, Quintana Roo — Municipal authorities immediately activated child protection protocols after receiving a report about a minor found unaccompanied in a public area, an incident that occurred Wednesday morning in Supermanzana 259 of Benito Juárez.
The notice was received at 8:21 a.m. on Lak’in Avenue, near the bus stop located behind a supermarket. At the site, a girl approximately eight years old was under the care of public transportation users, who requested support from authorities due to the possible risk situation.
Following instructions from Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta, the Interinstitutional Group for Attention to Violence Against Girls, Boys, Adolescents and Women, coordinated by Municipal Secretary General Pablo Gutiérrez, immediately attended to provide care for the minor, prioritizing her physical and emotional integrity at all times in accordance with established protocols.
After her initial assessment, the minor was transferred to the municipal Citizen Security facilities. Subsequently, a direct relative appeared, who reported that the girl had left her home without them noticing.
With the accompaniment of the Minor’s Officer from the Benito Juárez DIF System, an intervention was scheduled by the Social Work area to conduct a home visit and a comprehensive evaluation of the family environment, with the objective of defining the necessary follow-up actions to protect the minor’s rights.
The Benito Juárez City Council reported that it will continue to address in a coordinated and timely manner any situation that puts girls, boys and adolescents at risk, prioritizing their well-being and the best interests of children in the municipality.
