Cancún, Quintana Roo — Authorities rescued 29 women and a teenage boy during coordinated raids on two bars in Cancún and Playa del Carmen, the State Prosecutor’s Office announced. The operation targeted suspected human trafficking for sexual exploitation and forced labor.

The raids, conducted with search warrants from judges, involved the Mexican Navy, National Guard, State Public Security Department, and local police. Officials located and secured the individuals, who are considered potential victims of human trafficking.

First Raid in Cancún

The first operation took place at a bar on Rancho Viejo Avenue in Supermanzana 244 of Benito Juárez municipality (Cancún). Police found six women—five Mexican and one Cuban—who were engaging with customers and providing sexual services. They also secured a Mexican teenage boy, a probable victim of labor exploitation.

Initial investigations revealed customers paid 250 pesos (about $15) for a drink that included sitting with the women and allowing sexual touching. Sexual services cost between 1,000 and 2,000 pesos ($60–$120), with the establishment keeping 50% of the earnings.

Second Raid in Playa del Carmen

The second raid occurred at a bar on 125 South Avenue at the corner of 17 South B Street in Playa del Carmen. Authorities located 23 women—18 Mexican and five foreign nationals—who were offering “drinks or consumption” for 200 pesos ($12) and sexual relations for 1,800 pesos ($108). The bar also retained 50% of those fees.

After completing the operations, police placed seizure seals on both properties, which are now under the custody of the Prosecutor’s Office.

Due to their vulnerable status, the women were placed under protection and referred to appropriate authorities to ensure their safety, comprehensive care, and access to rights.
