ATM Machines Ransacked Inside Puerto Aventuras Gated Community

atms robbed in puerto aventuras

Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo — Two ATM machines located inside the Puerto Aventuras marina community were found broken into early this week, though the amount stolen remains unknown.

The privately owned machines, positioned next to Pelican Point restaurant, were discovered compromised by employees from Cometra, the armored transport company responsible for refilling the machines with cash. Upon arrival, workers found both ATMs already open and immediately contacted the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (Citizen Security Secretariat), which in turn notified the state prosecutor’s office.

Because the incident occurred within a private gated area, access to the press has been restricted, and as of now, the Fiscalía General del Estado (State Attorney General’s Office) has not released any official details or confirmed the amount of money taken.

While the marina is equipped with surveillance cameras, authorities have not confirmed whether the footage is being reviewed or if the ATMs were forcibly opened or simply left unlocked by mistake.

Residents in the community claim that while there are security cameras placed throughout the community, there is no access to the footage when a crime has been reported. In this instance, residents were not even informed that a crime had been committed inside the gated community leaving many to wonder what other security incidents have not been disclosed.

No official lines of investigation have been disclosed to residents or the press at this time.
