Cancún, Quintana Roo — State authorities revealed that a man arrested last week in Cancún’s hotel zone was the leader of a criminal faction within the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). The suspect, Alexis N, also known as "El Chilango," "Muñeca," or "Madre," assumed leadership following the arrest of former municipal police officer Rafael N, alias "El Comander."
Alexis N was detained alongside Salomón N after authorities seized 197 doses of marijuana from them.
Extortion and Criminal Operations
Quintana Roo Attorney General Raciel López Salazar confirmed that Alexis N was linked to extortion activities and had been operating for several months in Costa Mujeres, located on the mainland portion of Isla Mujeres. His arrest followed three formal complaints filed by tourism service providers in the area, who reported being forced to pay $700 weekly to continue working.
López Salazar stated that Alexis N was part of the criminal structure previously led by Rafael N, alias "El Comander," who is currently facing prosecution. After "El Comander’s" arrest, Alexis N restructured the criminal cell to continue extortion operations.
Connection to Homicide Case
Authorities also disclosed that Alexis N is connected to the homicide of a man on November 24, 2024, in Cancún’s Region 244. Further details regarding the investigation were not provided.
The arrest underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to dismantle organized crime networks operating in Quintana Roo’s tourist areas.
