Cancún, Mexico – A police chase occurred in the early hours of Thursday in Cancún following a violent armed robbery in Alfredo V. Bonfil, which resulted in gunfire, an interinstitutional deployment, and the abandonment of a stolen vehicle containing weapons.
The incident began around 1 a.m. when armed individuals intercepted a person and stole a black Suburban SUV.
After committing the robbery, the assailants fled using two vehicles: the stolen unit and a white Cadillac SUV, which separated to evade authorities.
Through the video surveillance system, the Suburban was detected traveling on Huayacán Avenue near the State Attorney General’s Office.
When police attempted to stop it, the occupants responded with gunfire against officers, triggering a chase that extended across several roadways, including Huayacán Avenue, Chac Mool extension, Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard, and Rogelio Castorena Avenue.
In response to the armed aggression, a joint operation was activated involving municipal, state, and federal police, as well as personnel from the Attorney General’s Office and specialized tactical groups.
During the escape, the alleged perpetrators entered a dirt road area on Rogelio Castorena Avenue, where a municipal patrol vehicle had an incident by veering off the road, complicating the pursuit and allowing the suspects to disperse.
Hours later, and following citizen reports, the Suburban was located abandoned in the Bonfil delegation, at the intersection of Luis Echeverría and Vicente Guerrero streets, near the community dome.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, agents found long weapons and blood traces inside, suggesting that at least one of those involved was injured during the confrontation.
So far, authorities have not confirmed any gunshot wound victims admitted to city hospitals. No arrests have been reported, as both the occupants of the Suburban and those of the white Cadillac SUV managed to escape.
Investigations remain open to locate those responsible for the robbery, as well as to clarify the origin of the seized weapons and possible links to other criminal incidents recorded in the area.
