Chetumal, Quintana Roo — A construction sector businessman was robbed of approximately 800,000 pesos in cash on Thursday afternoon after making a withdrawal at the Banorte branch located at the intersection of Álvaro Obregón and Andrés Quintana Roo avenues in the city center.
According to preliminary information, the victim went to the bank to cash several checks and, after completing the transaction, left the building accompanied by two people, carrying the money in a backpack.
It was outside the bank when an individual traveling on a motorcycle approached, got off the vehicle, and, using a firearm, threatened the businessman to force him to hand over the cash, after which he quickly fled the scene.
Following the robbery, there was a significant police mobilization in the area after a report was made to the 911 emergency number. Officers from various agencies conducted patrols on nearby streets in an attempt to locate the perpetrator, but no arrests were made.
Subsequently, personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office began the corresponding procedures and information gathering, as well as reviewing surveillance cameras from the bank and nearby businesses, as part of the investigation to clarify the million-peso robbery.
