Tulum, Quintana Roo — A violent armed attack near a hotel in Tulum left one person dead and another injured by gunfire. The incident occurred around midnight on Sunday in the Macario Gómez community, approximately 20 kilometers from the tourist center, near the Aldea Balam hotel.

Emergency Response and Initial Findings

According to the first emergency call to 911, authorities were alerted about a gunshot victim in front of the hotel. Paramedics from a private ambulance arrived and found a man with a bullet wound in his left leg. He was transported to Playa del Carmen General Hospital for medical treatment.

As authorities cordoned off the area, a second 911 call reported another injured individual a few blocks away. Emergency responders discovered a man without vital signs inside a silver KIA Río with license plate UTZ-294-K. The victim, seated in the driver’s seat, had at least six gunshot wounds to various parts of his body.

Preliminary Investigation

Initial reports suggest both victims may have been abducted on Cobá Avenue and taken to the outskirts of Macario Gómez before being executed. This theory has not been officially confirmed but is among the lines of investigation pursued by the State Attorney General’s Office.

Police and forensic experts secured the scene and began procedures to clarify the circumstances of the attack. No arrests have been made, and details about the perpetrators remain unclear.

Community Concerns

Residents of Macario Gómez have demanded increased security and surveillance, expressing fears that ongoing violence could disrupt local safety and harm the region’s reputation as a tourist destination.

The investigation remains ongoing.
