Tulum, Mexico — A deadly armed attack occurred Tuesday evening in the Ya’ax neighborhood of Tulum, leaving one man dead and two others seriously wounded. The shooting took place around 7:05 p.m. on Jazmín Street, between Margaritas and 20th North Avenue, near a residence where the victims were gathered.
Details of the Attack
According to preliminary reports, the three men were outside the home when armed assailants approached and opened fire without warning. One victim died at the scene after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, including a fatal shot to the head. The other two men suffered severe injuries.
Paramedics from Tulum Hospital responded to provide emergency care before transporting the wounded to a medical facility in Playa del Carmen. One victim sustained gunshot wounds to the abdomen, arm, and face, while the other was struck in the leg.
Investigation Underway
No arrests have been made as of yet, and the perpetrators fled immediately after the attack. The State Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation to identify those responsible and determine the motive behind the shooting.
Authorities, including the National Guard, Municipal Police, and State Police, cordoned off the area to allow forensic teams to process the scene. The identities of the victims and the possible motive remain undisclosed by officials.
Unofficial sources suggest the attack may be linked to disputes between criminal groups operating in northern Quintana Roo, though this has not been confirmed by law enforcement.
Rising Violence in Tulum
Tulum has experienced a surge in violent incidents in recent months, prompting increased security operations due to a rise in high-impact crimes, including organized crime and drug-related offenses.
The case remains under investigation as authorities work to apprehend the suspects.
