Sucilá, Yucatán — An armed attack on Wednesday evening raised security alerts in the municipality of Sucilá after a pickup truck was shot at in the vicinity of the area known as the dairy basin, in what preliminarily appears to have been an attempted execution.
According to initial reports, around 6:00 p.m., gunshots were heard directed at a gray Chevrolet S10 double cab pickup truck with Yucatan license plates as it was driving outside a ranch in that region.
After the attack, the driver managed to evade the aggression and traveled on his own to the Municipal Palace of Sucilá, where he requested help from authorities. They immediately activated a security operation in the area.
Elements of the Secretariat of Public Security, in coordination with the National Guard and the Navy, cordoned off the area and deployed a search operation on rural roads and nearby ranches to try to locate the person or persons responsible.
At the scene, the vehicle showed bullet impacts, one of them in the windshield, confirming a direct attack against the driver. Unofficially, it is reported that the attacker intercepted the vehicle as it left a ranch in the area.
Initial lines of investigation suggest that it could have been an attempted execution, and it is even possible that the attacker made a mistake in his target before fleeing.
So far, the case remains shrouded in secrecy by the authorities, with no information released about arrests or the motive for the attack.
The truck remains under guard outside the Municipal Palace, while the presence of security forces is maintained in the area, generating an atmosphere of tension and uncertainty among the inhabitants of Sucilá, who approached the place after hearing the detonations.
