Cancún Shooting Leaves One Injured, Suspects Detained

Cancún, Mexico — Authorities deployed a security operation following a report of an armed attack against a man that occurred in Region 91, near the municipal cemetery of Cancún. The victim was transported by emergency services to Cancún General Hospital, where his health condition was reported as serious due to gunshot wounds.

Based on reports and initial investigations, security personnel moved to Region 70, where they located a residence allegedly related to the attack. At the location, officers broke down the doors of the property and managed to detain one of the alleged hitmen involved in the aggression.

The authorities continue with investigations to determine the involvement of more people and clarify the facts.

Suspect Detained During Raid

Preliminarily, initial reports indicated that the events were recorded at 21:00 on Thursday, January 15. Authorities became aware, through the emergency number 911, of a male injured by a firearm projectile in Supermanzana 91, block 18, lot 13, on Calle 20 with Avenida Lombardo Toledano in Cancún.

According to the official report, the victim was attended to by paramedics and transported by emergency to Cancún General Hospital aboard medical unit QR-12, to receive specialized attention due to the severity of his injuries.

After the attack, security personnel went to the scene of the events; however, they reported that no ballistic evidence or other elements were found that would allow, initially, identification of the person responsible for the armed attack.

As part of the investigations derived from this violent event, the authorities implemented a subsequent operation that included a raid on a property related to the case. During this procedure, the detention of a subject allegedly involved in the events was achieved, which allowed progress in clarifying the attack.

The detainee was placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, who will be in charge of determining his legal situation in accordance with the law. Until now, the authorities have not revealed further details about the identity of the person involved or the possible motive for the aggression.
