Cancún, Quintana Roo — Amateur golf tournaments held throughout the year at various courses in Quintana Roo have become a major draw for sports tourism in Mexico’s Caribbean, attracting players from across the country and generating significant economic activity for local businesses.

These events bring together competitors seeking to test their skills, socialize, and enjoy some of the nation’s most spectacular golf settings. Many participants travel with family and friends, boosting revenue for hotels, restaurants, and other tourism services.

Among the most prominent tournaments is the Expo Golf tour, one of Mexico’s most recognized amateur competitions. It annually draws players from different states, featuring a blend of competitive play, camaraderie, exhibitions, social activities, and golf industry promotion.

Quintana Roo currently has 13 golf courses in tourist destinations like Cancún, Riviera Maya, and Tulum, hosting various amateur tournaments that allow participants to showcase their abilities while enjoying the region’s tourism and culinary offerings.

Beyond sports, several tournaments incorporate a social focus, with portions of proceeds directed toward charitable causes or community-benefiting institutions.

The state tourism secretary noted that Quintana Roo’s quality courses, favorable climate, and top-tier tourism infrastructure continue to position it as one of Mexico’s most attractive destinations for amateur golf, drawing increasing numbers of players each year to compete in a unique environment.
