PLAYA DEL CARMEN — A confrontation between a doctor and a patient's mother was recorded at the IMSS Bienestar facility, formerly known as Hospital General, located in the Villamar neighborhood. The incident, captured on video, has sparked controversy on social media and accumulated thousands of views.

In the recording, the physician is heard stating, "Right now there is no doctor, you have to be patient," to which the mother responds that she has been waiting for more than three hours for her son to receive medical attention.

Seconds later, a male voice intervenes, saying, "Here is a doctor making faces at the patients they attend to at the IMSS in Villamar." Immediately following this comment, the doctor physically lunges at the person holding the cell phone.

The video does not clearly determine who initiated the altercation. However, the recording shows the moment the healthcare professional attempts to strike the minor's mother in front of other patients, who were also waiting their turn for a consultation.

Unofficial accounts indicate that the woman began recording the doctor while the doctor was resting, which allegedly triggered the reaction.

Municipal police officers later arrived at the site to calm the situation.

The IMSS has not yet issued an official position on what occurred.
