AI Platform Fíctica Reimagines Popol Vuh Reading Experience at Yucatán Book Fair

Lalo Macías presents the Fíctica AI platform for interactive reading of the Popol Vuh at the Filey book fair in Mérida

Mérida, Yucatán — A new artificial intelligence platform is transforming how readers engage with the Popol Vuh, the sacred Maya text, by allowing real-time conversations with characters and interactive story exploration.

Fíctica, a platform that merges literature with AI, launched its Popol Vuh experience during the 2026 International Reading Fair of Yucatán (Filey). Founder Lalo Macías led a presentation titled “Introducing the New Chapter of Ebooks,” emphasizing that the tool restores the text’s original oral essence.

“If the Popol Vuh began as spoken word, today it can return to dialogue,” Macías said.

He explained that the technology enables interaction so readers can have a novel experience that sustains interest in books. “What we do is allow the reader to become the protagonist. We put them in the driver’s seat. For the first time, books stop being content consumption and start being interactive. We achieve this through gameplay dynamics. Fíctica is the layer of narrative intelligence that, through game loops, turns readers into participants who can discover and explore new worlds, new forms, and ensure their favorite work never ends.”

The experience begins at app.fictica.com/popolvuh-palabra-viva, where readers can register for free to use the system.

“The edition the reader holds does not aim to replace academic versions or correct them. It seeks to dialogue with them. It also doesn’t simplify the mystery of the original text or turn it into an adaptation. But this book doesn’t stay on the page. This ebook proposes a different experience: not just reading the Book of Council, but conversing with it. Exploring its symbols. Listening to its characters. Entering into dialogue with its worldview to return some of its original nature: interaction,” Macías shared during the presentation.

Macías was joined by Margarita Robleda, Sara Poot Herrera, Gonzalo Navarrete, Pavo Goof, Fer de la Cruz, and Sandra Canché, who read excerpts from the Popol Vuh and shared their personal visions of what these legends represent to them.
