Beware: Cat Sacrifices Surge in Cancún on Day of the Dead

The Animal Welfare Center in Cancún has raised a serious concern about the rise in cat sacrifices during the Day of the Dead celebrations. As October 31st approaches, the issue of animal abandonment becomes increasingly pressing in Cancún, with a notable increase in the number of stray cats and dogs in recent years. During this period, particularly around Halloween, there is heightened worry about the adoption and disappearance of cats, especially those with black or white fur.

There have been alerts about the use of cats in rituals associated with magic or witchcraft, putting these animals' lives at risk. National and international organizations have flagged this issue, pointing out sects in Mexico that perform satanic ceremonies on Halloween, specifically targeting unblemished cats for their gruesome rituals.

In an effort to mitigate this issue, numerous associations have prohibited the adoption of black cats during this sensitive period. Awareness campaigns, such as "Black Cat Day" celebrated on October 27, play a crucial role. The protection of animals, particularly during such critical times, is vital to prevent cruelty and ensure their wellbeing.
