Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa of Quintana Roo is working to improve access to nutrition, school supplies, and medicines for families in the region. She recently supervised the delivery of food aid from the "We All Eat" program in Chetumal.
At the Habitat 1 Community Development Center, approximately 150 family heads received free food packages for the fourth two-month period. These individuals are responsible for children, the elderly, and family members with chronic diseases or disabilities.
Governor Espinosa explained that the program is designed to support the most vulnerable. It's a way to ensure social justice and redistribute wealth back to the community. The goal is to ensure that no parent has to send their child to bed hungry or worry about providing breakfast before school. The program also helps to feed elderly family members or those requiring special care at home.
To ensure that no one is left behind, the "We All Eat" program has increased the number of beneficiaries and the amount of bimonthly transfers this year. The transfers have risen from 1,200 to 1,350 pesos. Additionally, the Food Security Agency has opened four new food package delivery centers in 2024. These are located in the towns of Noh-Bec, Blanca Flor, Altos de Sevilla, and Ucum. This brings the total number of centers to 39, spread across all 11 municipalities in the state.
The governor was joined by the honorary president of DIF Quintana Roo, Verónica Lezama Espinosa; the Mayor of Othón P. Blanco, Yensunni Martínez Hernández, and beneficiary Dolores Can Murillo, who expressed her gratitude for the program.
