A police officer was injured during a shootout near the General Prosecutor's Office on Yaxchilán Avenue in Cancún. Authorities responded by activating the Red Code, a high alert status, following reports of gunfire at the entrance to the city's hotel zone.
Initial information suggests that the attackers attempted to flee the scene. One was apprehended on Cobá Avenue, while the other made it as far as Cielo Street, where he attempted to hijack a truck.
The injured officer, who was involved in the initial confrontation at the Prosecutor's Office, was transported to the Mexican Social Security Institute Hospital for treatment.
The pursuit of the suspects, involving state officers, concluded on Kabah Avenue. Here, the police were successful in arresting two individuals found to be in possession of firearms. However, this was not achieved without a further exchange of gunfire.
The incident resulted in a significant police presence in Mexico's primary tourist destination. This caused considerable alarm among both tourists and residents near the entrance of the hotel zone.
The General Attorney, Raciel López, confirmed the outcome of the incident. The confrontation with the assailants in this area of Cancún resulted in one police officer being injured and two suspected criminals being arrested.
