Mexican diver Osmar Olvera has made history by winning his second medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This achievement cements him as one of the rising stars of Mexican sports. With a bronze medal in the individual three-meter springboard event, Olvera joins the ranks of Joaquín Capilla, making them the only Mexicans to win two medals in the same Olympic event.
At just 20 years old, Olvera scored a total of 500.40 points, finishing behind Chinese competitors Xie Siyi and Wang Zongyuan, who won gold and silver respectively. "I knew that with 500 points, I would be in contention for the podium," Olvera said after the competition. Despite his success, Olvera has his sights set on the gold medal at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. His bronze medal, along with the silver he won with Juan Celaya in the three-meter synchronized diving event, confirms Mexico's dominance in this discipline.
Olvera's journey to success began at the age of nine when he joined Ivan Bautista's team in Guadalajara. There, he trained with renowned athletes like Germán Sánchez, who acknowledged Olvera's talent and determination. Despite facing challenges such as lack of governmental support since the beginning of last year, Olvera proved that talent and dedication can overcome any obstacles. With a strong mindset and the support of his fellow Mexicans in Paris, Olvera has demonstrated that he is just getting started and his future in the sport looks promising.
