Two new routes are set to launch this Friday as part of the Va y Ven Public Transport System in southern Merida. The Centro-Emiliano Zapata Sur II-Paso Texas and Centro-Emiliano Zapata Sur-Tecoh routes are part of an initiative by Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal to provide efficient, modern, and sustainable transportation for the area's residents.
The Yucatan Transportation Agency (ATY) announced that 20 new, modern vehicles will service these routes. As a special promotion, rides will be free from August 9 to 16. After the first week, electronic payments will be accepted, and users can benefit from transfer discounts.
The Centro-Emiliano Zapata Sur II-Paso Texas route will feature 12 Mercedes Benz units. Stops include the Consuelo Zavala Kindergarten, Melchor Ocampo and Luis G. Monzón elementary schools, Vasco de Quiroga A.C School, Mérida International Airport, El Bate Baseball Field, José María Morelos Elementary School, Mi Bodega Aurrerá, Mayel Nicté Preschool, Emiliano Zapata Sur Community Center, Plaza Santos Sur, and South Cultural Center.
The Centro-Emiliano Zapata Sur-Tecoh route will pass by El Campito Park, Serapio Baqueiro Preve Elementary School, Vasco de Quiroga A.C School, Mérida International Airport, El Bate Baseball Field, San Antonio Xluch Park, Emiliano Zapata Sur Baseball Field, State Civil Protection Unit, Women's Health Care Center, Technical High School no. 59, and CECyTEY Plant 06 Emiliano Zapata. This route will be serviced by 8 Mercedes Benz units equipped with air conditioning, USB chargers, screens, bicycle racks, and can be tracked via the Va-y-ven app. The vehicles are also universally accessible, with designated spaces for people with disabilities, short stature, and older adults, as well as wheelchair ramps, low floors, and Braille signage.
On August 10, the fourth electric route, Centro-Umán-Tren Maya, will start operating from the Ie-tram, marking the first 100% electric public transport service in southeastern Mexico. Additionally, two new express routes, Centro-Av. Aviación-Cd. Industrial-Uman Express and Centro-Piedra de Agua Express, will be launched, offering users faster travel times with direct routes and fewer stops.
