Violent Clash at Cancun Airport Over Uber Crackdown

Uber drivers have reported being attacked at Cancun International Airport. This follows a crackdown on illegal transportation services by federal authorities on Tuesday night, which sparked a protest from these platform drivers.

Throughout the weekend, the National Guard and the SICT conducted operations to inspect the documentation of vehicles offering transport services at all four terminals of Cancun's airport. In a single day, nine vehicles registered with Uber were seized, along with several other vehicles providing passenger transfer services without the necessary permits.

Agueda Esperilla, an Uber driver, stated that the protest was to demand safety for both drivers and tourists who opt for this alternative mode of transportation.

Tensions escalated into a physical altercation between Uber drivers and unauthorized transporters at Terminal 3, which serves international flights, at Cancun airport. The protest was sparked by the text "Platform Drivers Protest at Cancun International Airport".
