The Royal Caribbean's cruise ship, Grandeur of the Seas, has made its inaugural visit to the port of Progreso in Yucatan. The ship brought a total of 3,138 visitors, including passengers and crew members, boosting tourism and the local economy.

The Grandeur of the Seas, which set sail from Tampa, Florida, docked at the Yucatan port at 6:53 am. Passengers disembarked to explore the local culture and attractions before the ship continued its 5-day itinerary towards Cozumel, Quintana Roo.

The cruise ship brought 2,349 passengers and 789 crew members to the port. They had the morning and part of the afternoon to explore the natural beauty, culture, and cuisine of the area, which is located just half an hour from the capital, Mérida.

A ceremony was held to commemorate the ship's first visit. Representatives from the ship and the Yucatan government exchanged commemorative plaques, with port authorities from Progreso also in attendance.

The Grandeur of the Seas, a Vision Class cruise ship operated by Royal Caribbean International, entered service in 1996. The ship boasts a full-service spa, six hot tubs, two swimming pools, an outdoor running track, a casino, eight themed bars, a main theatre, six restaurants, and a large dining room.

The ship's arrival is a testament to the state government's efforts to improve infrastructure in Progreso. The aim is to offer visitors a range of attractions and experiences, such as the Meteorite Museum, which provides information about the biological history since a meteorite impact 66 million years ago. Another highlight is the Jurassic Trail, which displays life-sized, robotically-enhanced dinosaurs from various species.
