Late Tuesday night, a bar in Playa del Carmen was targeted in a drive-by shooting. The incident occurred around 11:40 PM on July 16th at the intersection of 80th Avenue and Juárez. The Olimpo bar, which was closed at the time, was sprayed with bullets from a passing vehicle.
Local residents, alerted by the sound of gunfire, quickly contacted emergency services. Officers from the Quintana Roo Police were swiftly on the scene, securing the area for investigation. Eight spent bullet casings were found and collected from the street as evidence.
While the motive behind the shooting is still under investigation, it is suspected that it may have been a warning related to the non-payment of protection money. This theory, however, is yet to be confirmed by the authorities.
The escape route of the perpetrators remains unknown. It is hoped that the city's surveillance cameras may have captured their movements.
