In Yucatan, nearly 60 percent (59.7) of the total confirmed COVID-19 cases are women, accounting for 150 cases, while men account for 101. Compared to the same week in 2023, there has been an increase of 43 diagnoses, a rise of 20 percent. Over the last 10 weeks, cases have jumped from 136 to 251, more than doubling the previous count. This surge was particularly noticeable over the last month, according to the Secretary of Health.
Between weeks 18 and 22, there was only a slight increase, with 10 new cases and a single death, bringing the total from 8 to 9. However, between weeks 23 and 27, an additional 122 cases and two deaths were reported, bringing the total deaths to 11 for the year so far.
Nationally, in 2024, there have been 375 confirmed COVID-19 deaths. Mexico City has the highest mortality rate at 15.5 percent, followed by Puebla (8.8 percent), Jalisco (6.7 percent), State of Mexico (6.1 percent), and Hidalgo (5.9 percent).
Yucatan's mortality rate is currently at 4.3 percent, below the national average of 4.6 percent. In 2023, 37 people from Yucatan died of the virus. Just over halfway through the year, we are already at 29.7 percent of that total.
The Secretary of Health has stated that the official method for confirming COVID-19 cases is now the RT-PCR test. Rapid antigen tests and clinical epidemiologic rulings are no longer used for surveillance, following the end of the health emergency.
