Cancún Man Arrested for 43 Million Peso Bank Fraud

Daniel N arrested in Cancún for multi-million peso bank fraud

During the Quintana Roo Security Table Press Conference held this Monday, December 8, authorities reported the arrest of Daniel “N,” a 57-year-old man originally from Mexico City, for his alleged involvement in a multi-million peso fraud against a banking institution.

The Investigation Police of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) executed an arrest warrant against him for acts committed in the municipality of Benito Juárez.

According to investigations, Daniel “N” presented himself as a representative of a supposed company dedicated to commercial and private air operations. Under this guise, he signed a leasing contract for the rental of airport equipment, including baggage conveyors, mobile passenger stairs, and other devices used in ground services.

However, the accused failed to make the established payments and did not return the leased goods, which generated a legal conflict with the affected company. Subsequently, the company transferred the collection rights to a bank through a financial factoring contract, making the banking institution the legitimate creditor of the debt.

Due to non-compliance, both the company and the bank initiated a commercial lawsuit in Guadalajara, Jalisco, requesting contract termination and equipment recovery. The debt amount totals 43 million 381 thousand pesos, corresponding to unearned rents, overdue rents, late interest, and VAT.

As part of the procedure, authorities were ordered to locate the goods at an address in the Paseos del Caribe neighborhood in Cancún; however, authorities confirmed that there were no offices or company facilities at the site, which strengthened the suspicion of fraud.

For these acts, Daniel “N” was linked to the process, and a control judge determined to impose the precautionary measure of justified preventive detention while the criminal process against him continues.
