Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The municipal government, led by Mayor Estefanía Mercado, has achieved a historic milestone in the sporting life of Playa del Carmen. For the first time, all of the municipality's soccer fields are equipped with synthetic turf, a fulfilled commitment that positions sport as a fundamental axis for well-being and the construction of peace.
Unprecedented Investment in Sports Infrastructure
This achievement is part of an unprecedented investment that includes:
- 25 rehabilitations of sports spaces.
- More than 1,590 maintenance actions on courts, domes, and sports units.
- Participation in 23 national and international events.
- Visits from internationally renowned athletes who shared their experience with youth from popular neighborhoods.
According to a statement, these actions have directly benefited more than 1 million 44 thousand users, generating opportunities, development, and social cohesion through sport.
Sport as a Tool for Building Peace
Mayor Estefanía Mercado emphasized that this effort represents not just infrastructure, but also a change in vision.
“Sport is an engine of transformation,” Mercado stated. “Today we are giving back to our girls, boys, and young people dignified, safe, and quality spaces. Because building sport is building peace for everyone.”
With this action, the government of Estefanía Mercado consolidates Playa del Carmen as a benchmark for sports infrastructure within the state and the country, guaranteeing that sport reaches every neighborhood and community as a tool for well-being and shared prosperity.
