MEXICO — According to the official minimum wage tables approved for Mexico in 2025, a domestic employee must be paid 303.70 pesos per day, while those working within the Northern Border Free Zone are entitled to a daily wage of 419.88 pesos.
This remuneration applies to cases where a mandatory workday is completed and does not include the cost of materials required for cleaning, as this expense must be covered directly by the employer.
Furthermore, data supported by the Federal Procuraduría de la Defensa del Trabajo (Profedet) states that every person dedicated to the cleaning and maintenance of a household—meaning anyone hired for this sole purpose—deserves to enjoy the same benefits provided in any professional activity. These include enrollment and monthly payment of social security contributions, an annual Christmas bonus (aguinaldo), and paid vacation.
For live-in domestic workers, the Secretaría de Trabajo y Fomento al Empleo (STyFE) explains that they have additional rights. These include the right to at least one and a half days of rest per week and breaks totaling three hours if the workday is extensive.
They are also entitled to a properly equipped living space with all necessary services for a dignified life, healthy meals provided by the employer, and dignified and respectful treatment.
