Win 5,000 Pesos in Puerto Morelos Dance Contest

PUERTO MORELOS, Quintana Roo — The government of Puerto Morelos has announced a search for the region’s most talented young dancers. A dance competition for children and adolescents will be held in conjunction with the Caribe Ritmo Fest, featuring a total prize pool of 10,000 pesos for minors and teenagers from the state.

Competition Categories and Characteristics

The competition is divided into two categories: Infant, for ages 6 to 11, and Youth, for ages 12 to 16. Participation is organized in groups, with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 20 participants per team. The competition is open to all dance techniques, including urban, hip hop, ballet, contemporary, jazz, Caribbean rhythms, and free-style fusion. All skill levels are welcome to compete on a stage measuring 10.98 meters by 8.54 meters.

Registration Requirements and Process

The deadline for registration is September 15. A fee of 150 pesos is required for each team member. Teams must complete their registration by sending the following materials to the email address turitmoacademia@gmail.com:

  • An MP4 file of their choreography.
  • A completed official list of team members, including the CURP (Unique Population Registry Code) for each one.
  • Proof of payment for the registration fee.

Payments are to be sent to a City Banamex account under the name Neftalí Padilla, account number 5206 9496 6309 8399, with the CLABA number 0026 9170 2002 9672 70.

Competition Format and Rules

All teams will participate in a competitive exhibition format. Choreography must last between 2 minutes and 30 seconds and 3 minutes and 30 seconds. Teams are required to arrive at least 45 minutes before their scheduled performance time. The order of participation will be determined by a random draw and communicated in advance.

The use of scenery and props is permitted; however, teams are entirely responsible for these items, and they cannot remain on the stage outside of the team’s allotted performance time. The organization states that any disrespect shown towards the jury, staff, or other teams will result in disqualification.

Evaluation and Prizes

A panel of three judges will evaluate the competing squads, and their decisions will be final. Teams will be scored on the following criteria: timing and technique, creativity and choreographic difficulty, synchrony and teamwork, expression and stage presence, and costume and overall presentation.

The prizes are as follows:

  • First Place: A trophy, emblematic medals, and 5,000 pesos in cash.
  • Second Place: Emblematic medals and 2,000 pesos in cash.
  • Third Place: Emblematic medals and 1,000 pesos in cash.

Organizational Notes

The organizing committee has stipulated that a minimum of five teams must be registered for the competition to take place. The organization reserves the right to modify the competition rounds depending on the number of teams that register. Furthermore, any situation not covered in the rules will be resolved by the organizing committee.
