PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico — The office of the Quintana Roo State Human Rights Commission (Cdheqroo) in Playa del Carmen has received a total of 232 complaints against public servants, both municipal and state, so far in 2025, according to Salvador Contreras Mis, the commission’s third visiting official in the municipality.
In a brief interview, the official noted that while the number of complaints against public servants remains at an average consistent with previous years, the Municipal Police force has been the agency with the most recurring cases.
He highlighted that of the 232 complaints filed, a total of 57 have been against police officers, primarily for three reasons: abuse of authority, aggression against citizens, and arbitrary detentions.
Contreras pointed out that another agency with a high number of registered complaints this year is the State Attorney General’s Office, with the majority of these complaints stemming from poor or non-existent service to the public.
Salvador Contreras also stated that in all cases where public servants are implicated, the Cdheqroo consistently advocates for mediation and dialogue as the primary tools for conflict resolution.
“All these problems are resolved through management, through discussion with the agents, always seeking solutions as quickly as possible,” he concluded.
