Cancún, Mexico — With the firm conviction of building a more ecological and sustainable municipality, the Municipal President, Ana Paty Peralta, led the launch of the Municipal Urban Afforestation Program 2024-2027. This ambitious project began with the planting of 200 native trees on the central median of Avenida Cancún, in the section between Morrocoy Street and Pedregal, as a first step toward the program's goal of planting 11,000 specimens.

During the event, Ana Paty Peralta highlighted that this initiative represents the first phase of a comprehensive effort to recover vegetation cover in impacted areas, prevent soil erosion, and reduce urban heat islands. "Today we take an important step toward a greener, cooler, and healthier Cancún for everyone. With these actions, we strengthen our city and build a legacy of life for future generations," expressed the Mayor.

The Director General of Ecology, Fernando Haro Salinas, emphasized the importance of community participation in this afforestation effort. Municipal authorities, state representatives, social organizations, and citizen volunteers came together to plant native species such as Ceiba, Maculis, Mahogany, Ciricote, Xcanlol, and Chacté, each one adapted to the local environment and vital for the region's biodiversity.

The 2024-2027 Urban Afforestation Program will be developed in seven phases, covering priority areas such as Avenida López Portillo, Avenida Tulum, the Parque de la Equidad, and the Foundational Zone, among others. These actions are part of a broader commitment by the Municipal Government to promote public environmental policies aimed at consolidating a greener, more resilient Cancún in harmony with nature, thereby positioning ecology as a central axis in the city's transformation.
