Cancún, Mexico — A driver in a state of intoxication led municipal police on a dangerous pursuit in the early hours of Sunday, August 24, culminating in two collisions and an attempted escape on foot in the 255 neighborhood. The incident began when the motorist repeatedly ignored police signals to stop.
The driver, operating a black Kia, initiated the evasion at the intersection of the Periférico and Lakin Avenue. During his flight, he first struck a motorcyclist but did not stop, instead accelerating away. He subsequently lost control of the vehicle at the entrance to the 255 neighborhood, where he collided with another car.
Despite the crash, the driver attempted to re-enter the roadway but only managed to mount the central median. With the car disabled and a flat tire, the driver exited the vehicle and attempted to continue his escape by running. He was, however, quickly intercepted and apprehended by municipal police officers.
Two victims were identified at the scene: the motorcyclist and the driver of a white vehicle that had been struck by the same individual minutes earlier. The detained individual was placed at the disposal of the competent authorities, accused of driving under the influence of alcohol and causing damages during his attempted flight.
