Cancún — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa and the Secretary of Education, Mario Delgado Carrillo, initiated the distribution of free textbooks for basic education students during an event held at the "Gualberto Salazar Centeno" primary school in this city.
Nearly 300,000 Students Benefited
In total, 2,178,277 free textbooks corresponding to the 2025-2026 basic education school cycle will be distributed. These will benefit 289,071 girls, boys, and adolescents in public schools throughout the state and 49,413 students in private institutions, fostering equal opportunities and non-discrimination in the educational environment.
The Governor of Quintana Roo expressed the gratitude of Quintana Roo's citizens to President Claudia Sheinbaum for firmly promoting the New Mexican School, a vision that places social justice, equality, and the right of every girl and boy to have the tools to get ahead at its center.
"Thanks to that support, along with the commitment of this humanist government with a feminist heart, we are managing to reverse the abandonment of so many years in which education was relegated to the corner of unimportant things. But in the governments of the Transformation, that is behind us, because we have principles and values that guide us: do not lie, do not steal, and never betray the people," stated the head of the Executive.
Complementary Support for the Return to Classes
Mara Lezama announced that this delivery of books will be complemented by the distribution of backpacks, school supplies, and uniforms starting September 1st. This support represents a relief for the economy of thousands of families, "because public resources belong to the people and must be used on what matters most, on the well-being of our daughters and sons."
During the delivery ceremony, Secretary Mario Delgado stated that with this delivery of free textbooks, everything is ready to start the school year on September 1st. He asserted that humanism is the center of the New Mexican School, where teachers can exercise their educational autonomy, develop their creativity, and employ techniques that allow for better teaching in Mexico.
Children's Health is Checked
The Secretary of Education thanked the parents for being attentive to their children's education. He said that the Secretariat managed to remove junk food from schools. "We are going for healthy and happy girls and boys," he said.
He reported that with the Vive Saludable, Vive Feliz (Live Healthy, Live Happy) program, all primary schools in Quintana Roo are being visited to check the health of the children, creating their digital record and, if necessary, referring them to health centers.
Mario Delgado affirmed that this year the "Rita Cetina" scholarships will be extended to primary school students so that no boy or girl is left without an education.
Support for the Construction of Domes
The Secretary of Education praised the program promoted by Governor Mara Lezama to construct domes in all public schools in the state. "We join this initiative," he said.
According to the SEQ (Quintana Roo Education Secretariat), 338,484 girls, boys, and adolescents returning to classes in the 2,367 public and private schools throughout the state of Quintana Roo will benefit in this starting school year. Of the total state enrollment, 166,181 are female and 172,303 are male.
Delivery of Narrative Books
At the same event, 10 copies of Narrativas (Narratives) were delivered. This is a collective, unpublished work that brings together the life stories, motivations, challenges, and learnings of 49 basic education teachers in the state.
Through their narratives, the work invites the teaching staff to recognize themselves as integral subjects, capable of intertwining their personal and professional lives, exploring the experiences that have marked their careers, and reflecting on their well-being, identity, and teaching work.
This narrative exercise not only preserves the pedagogical and human memory of the teaching staff but also promotes the revaluation of their work as a pillar of educational and social transformation within the framework of the New Mexican School and the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo promoted by Governor Mara Lezama.
Attending the event were the municipal president of Benito Juárez, Ana Paty Peralta de la Peña; the state Secretary of Education, Elda Xix Euán; Senator Anahí González; Federal Deputy Mildred Ávila; Federal Deputy Humberto Aldana; and Deputy Jorge Sanén Cervantes, president of the Governing Board and Political Coordination of the State Congress.
