CANCÚN, Mexico — In a firm commitment to promoting sports and developing young talent, Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta inaugurated the "Golden Gloves 2025" amateur boxing tournament. The competition, celebrating its 19th anniversary, has become a breeding ground for champions in southeastern Mexico and gathered 445 amateur boxers from six states across the country.

During the opening ceremony, Peralta highlighted the event's importance in inspiring young people to pursue their dreams through sports. "Today is a very important day, and I could not miss it because with initiatives like this we continue to steer our girls, boys, and young people away from bad habits and build a better society," she stated before an animated crowd that packed the "José María Morelos" Sports Unit, popularly known as "Toro Valenzuela."

The director of the Municipal Sports Institute (IDM), Alejandro Luna López, emphasized that this year's edition includes the participation of 87 women and 358 men. Athletes from Quintana Roo, Yucatán, San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, Baja California Norte, and Tamaulipas are ready to demonstrate their talent and give their best in each fight.

Víctor Hugo García Sánchez, president of the Quintana Roo Boxing Association, reported that 88 individual championships will be contested in categories ranging from Sub 13 to Elite, in addition to a team championship that will award the gym with the most victories. The competition will feature officiating from 18 certified judges from various states.

The "Golden Gloves" tournament is recognized not only for its history but also for being a fundamental platform for the development of athletes who have represented Mexico in national and international competitions, including the Olympic Games and the professional arena.

Following the inauguration, Ana Paty Peralta joined parents to enjoy the exciting fights taking place across three simultaneous rings, reaffirming the municipal government's commitment to sports and youth.
